The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s Disaster Management unit received a generous donation from AVBOB that provides much-needed relief items to those affected by the severe weather conditions that ravaged the area from 14 to 19 June. Over 1 500 people were evacuated and several roads and passes were closed to escape the devastating impact of the inclement weather.
AVBOB’s donation includes essential items such as food parcels (200), bedding (200) and hygiene packs (150), which will be distributed to the areas most in need within the district.
On Friday 7 July, Executive Mayor Ald (Dr) Elna von Schlicht and Ald Clara Meyer, Portfolio Holder for Disaster Management, gratefully accepted the donated items in Paarl and expressed their sincere appreciation for AVBOB’s commitment to partnership and community support.
Mayor Von Schlicht remarked, “It has been many years since residents of our district experienced this kind of weather. Thank you, AVBOB! This exemplifies a whole-of-society approach, and the Cape Winelands District Municipality truly appreciates this gesture. We are confident that our communities who will receive these items will also be grateful for this support.”
AVBOB’s compassionate donation is set to provide vital aid to the affected communities, offering a glimmer of hope during these challenging times.
